Eersterust ‘drug dealer’ busted – for fourth time this year
The suspected drug dealer was previously arrested in February, March and April.
Eersterust police arrested a notorious alleged drug dealer on Wednesday – for the fourth time.
The 30-year-old man had previously been arrested three times this year for the same offence.
He was arrested on Titus Avenue, a street infamously known for drug dealing, during an intelligence-driven operation.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo, the man was previously arrested in February, March and April this year.
“This time he was found in possession of drugs suspected to be crystal meth and cocaine,” Shibambo added.
Shibambo said community members have been lodging complaints about the 30-year-old drug dealer.
Community members claim that the man continues to deal in drugs despite his numerous arrests.
He is expected to appear in the Hatfield magistrate’s court soon.
Shibambo said police have enforced strict patrolling around the area to ensure that the drug trade is curbed.
In 2019, Rekord reported on the arrest of a 21-year-old man for selling suspected drugs on the same street.
The 21-year-old was found with 188 sachets of what was suspected to be methcathinone, also known as CAT.
The police had spotted him standing opposite one of the houses that is reportedly known for its drug trade.
The street is also the home to late ANC women’s veteran, Maria Kelly, who died in 2014 after a short illness.
Gogo Kelly, as many called her, was one of the women that marched to the Union Buildings against the pass laws in 1956. She was a member of the ANC Women’s League in ward 43.
In 2016, Eersterust residents gathered outside her home to celebrate her tombstone’s unveiling.
Eersterust police station commander Lieutenant Colonel Simon Matshwane Theledi applauded the officers who made the arrest.
