Young Mams woman donates to after care centre
Local organisation donates 50 blankets, toys, sanitary towels, stationery, food parcels and six pairs of school shoes to an after care centre.
A young Mamelodi woman has donated 50 blankets, toys, sanitary towels, stationery, food parcels and six pairs of school shoes to an after-care centre.
Mbali Modau, who is the founder of Mbalenhle Mndawe, made a generous donation to Thandanani Drop Inn centre in Mamelodi east as part of her birthday and Women’s Day.
Modau said she chose to celebrate her birthday with the centre because she was inspired by its work taking care of the children in the community.
The centre takes care of vulnerable children after school and helps them with their homework, gives them a healthy meal before sending them home and also runs holiday school programmes.
Modau, also a motivational speaker, encouraged the children to follow their dreams and never give up.
“Dreams don’t have an expiry date and the children should start fighting for what they want in life [early],” she said.
The foundation was founded in 2020 to aid people living with disabilities but its offerings are not limited to the disabled only but extend to the community at large.
Modau sources donations, like food parcels, sanitary towels and clothes, and hands them out to the needy.
Sonto Skosana of Thandanani Drop Inn Centre said the generous donation came when needed most.
She said it was remarkable that different organisations with a shared vision come together as one in service of the community.
The centre is open Monday to Saturday and keeps the youth and children of Mamelodi busy away from drugs and crime.
The centre is a youth-driven, passionate and focused group of volunteers striving to find new and innovative ways of uplifting the community and fight poverty, unemployment, and drug- and substance abuse.
