Cosatu to embark on national shutdown
Cosatu plans to march to the Union Buildings on Wednesday to demand that the government solves fuel price hikes and load-shedding.
Cosatu said it would embark on a national shutdown on Wednesday to protest against continuous blackouts and the rising cost of living.
“No investor would want to invest in an economy that cannot guarantee sufficient and reliable energy,” said Cosatu president Zingiswa Losi.
Losi said the inefficient energy supply had a direct impact on the country’s economy.
“Businesses must close and small-to-medium enterprises can’t create employment since they do not know what tomorrow would look like.
“This is a cause for concern.”

Cosatu wanted the government to address fuel price hikes, escalating food prices and load-shedding.
The shutdown represented “a response by the workers to the ongoing class warfare waged on them by both public and private sector employers”.
According to Losi, “the working class does not benefit from the South African economy in its current form”.
“This raises questions about the actual beneficiaries and owners of the country’s economy.”
A march in Pretoria was scheduled to start at Burgers Park on Lillian Ngoyi Street in the city centre and end at the Union Buildings in Arcadia where the protesters would deliver their memorandum to the government, according to Cosatu provincial secretary Louisah Modikwe.
The Tshwane metro police are yet to issue a statement regarding which affected streets motorists should avoid.
