Motorists urged to collect driving license cards or face defacing
Once an unclaimed driving license has been defaced, the applicant will be compelled to re-apply and pay the costs again.
Motorists who have applied for new driving licence cards between October and December 2021 are urged to collect or risk them being destroyed.
Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) spokesperson Simon Zwane said failure to collect completed licence cards within 120 days, would result in them being destroyed.
“Applicants are warned that regulation 108 of the national road traffic act empowers licensing centres to deface an unclaimed driving licence card 120 days after they notified motorists to collect,” said Zwane.
He said once an unclaimed driving licence was defaced, the applicant would be compelled to re-apply and pay the costs again.
Zwane said the RTMC centres were operational seven days a week from 07:00-21:00.
“Applicants are encouraged to take advantage of shorter queues and come on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.”
He added that the backlog in the printing of driving licence cards was cleared and turnaround time for the delivery of cards had improved tremendously.
This is as recent card applicants can expect to receive their cards within two weeks of application.
Zwane said before approaching licensing centres for collection, motorists could check the status of their licences and professional driving permits by doing the below.
For your licence:
– SMS your ID number to 33214. If the reply is “Application Received” it means the application has been received from the DLTC and not yet processed.
For your permit:
– SMS your ID number to 44220.
