Locals battle it out at braai competition in Centurion
A four-hour braai challenge which saw four braai masters take on various types of meat ended with one lucky contestant walking away with R10 000 in cash.
Shoppers, radio listeners and foodies were treated to some excellent smells and tastes during the Meat World Centurion braai competition on Friday.
The competition saw the winner, Erich Kassell, taking home a cash prize of R10 000.
The finalists tackled the four hours of braaiing all types of meats with each having its own signature flavour and braai style.
As the braai-off went on shoppers and spectators were free to sample all the meats served, hot off the braai.
While waiting for the meat to braai, The Drive with Rob and Roz from Jacaranda FM entertained with a live broadcast from the competition, giving out prizes and participating as the judging panel.
Other entertainment came from carnival performers and a special appearance from Kurt Darren.
Some lucky shoppers were surprised with gifts and prizes if they purchased the correct specials on promotion and some were lucky enough to participate in a challenge on Jacaranda FM.
Spectators were torn between the various contestants with the Leretolo Family (pictured) liking both Braai Master 1, Jason van Rensburg’s lamb chops and Braai Master 3 Ruben Burger’s chicken pieces.
The Van der Merwe family were in support of dad and husband, Braai-master Christo van der Merwe’s skills but in the end, it was Braai-Master 4, Erich Kassell who took home the R10 000 for his simple flavours and perfectly cooked fillet steak.
