Three suspects arrested for Garsfontein armed robbery
After taking the victims possessions, the robbers fled into a blue Hyundai Atos, not firing any shots and leaving the victim physically unharmed.
Garsfontein SAPS arrested three men in connection with an armed robbery at Royalnet Cafe at Wapadrand shopping centre in Garsfontein this weekend.
Reportedly, the suspects had approached the victim while he was unlocking his car. When the suspects reached the man, one of the robbers pulled out a gun and ordered the man into his vehicle. The assailants proceeded to take R5 000 in cash, cellphone, watch and tools from the man.
Afterwards, the robbers fled into a blue Hyundai Atos.
No shots were fired and the victim was unhurt.
Authorities were contacted and an order to be on the lookout for the blue Hyundai Atos and the three suspects was passed to all available patrolling officers in the area.
Garsfontein SAPS, the K9 team, Brinant security and TMPD were all part of this effort and searches expanded to Eeresterust.
The blue Hyundai Atos with the three suspects was located on Begonia Street and followed.
Once in a safe area, authorities stopped and searched the vehicle. During the search, police were able to recover the phone, cash and the rest of the property that the victim reported missing.
With the discovery of the stolen items, the suspects (aged 46, 30, and 23) were all taken into custody and charged.
Acting district commissioner Brigadier Kushie Pietersen commended the officers for their swift response.
The suspects are to appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court in due course.
