A ward that cleans together, braais together – Moot residents show how
Residents wore name tags to the networking event to introduce themselves while kids entertained themselves on the jumping castle.
Moot ward 54 showed its strong sense of community when residents came together for braai this past weekend.
Ward councillor Elma Nel said the residents also recently teamed up to clean up a local bridge and she hoped they would continue to build stronger bonds through her latest initiative.
Nel headed the clean-up operation at Fred Nicholson Bridge along with members of the Wonderboompoort SAPS< Wonderboompoort CPF Sector 2, and the metro’s solid waste department.
She said the operation also removed approximately 20 people illegally living under the bridge that several local homeowners had complained about.
The ward 54 councillor wants her residents to take a more active part in their community by joining the community WhatsApp group to stay up to date with social events and general news of the area.
“There is the usual municipal WhatsApp group where outstanding complaints are dealt with, but also a friends and braai group at the moment,” said Nel.
This past weekend was the start of what Nel hopes would be regular community meet-ups, where residents can meet and connect.
“Personally, it exceeded my highest expectations and I was privileged to meet the most pleasant people in person,” continued Nel.
Residents wore name tags to introduce themselves as an ice-breaker during the networking and a kids’ area, which included a jumping castle was provided to keep the little ones entertained.
Residents interested in joining the Ward 54 WhatsApp group can contact councillor Nel and provide her with their name and surname; date of birth; street address and contact number. The group is private to protect residents’ information and Nel says she will add all the ward residents who wanted to join.
Nel expressed gratitude to residents that attended this weekend’s festivities and said the next braai was planned for December 3.
