Laerskool Stephanus Roos celebrates two of its young heroes with fundraising

The Laerskool Stephanus Roos in Sinoville, Pretoria celebrated two of its cancer survivors, Johan Fourie and Jaco Engelbrecht at the school.

The school hosted a fundraising for Madeliefie Versorgingseenheid, Paul Kruger Kinderhuis, Ohana and Pretoria Dog Rescue under the theme “Rose met Hart…wees die lig in iemand anders se lewe”.

Pretoria Dog Rescue (PDR) said they felt honoured to have been part of such an amazing event, which celebrated the lives of two young children.

“What an awesome, amazing event, in celebration of two learners of the school, Johan Fourie and Jaco Engelbrecht, two cancer survivors. You are real fighters and we salute you! How amazing to see their joy when they were brought in on motor cycles, and the smiles on their faces when they could ring the school bell, an old tradition at the school.”

PDR representative Reinette le Roux told Rekord that it was a blessing to the organisation to partake in such an event. Le Roux said it was beautiful to witness both learners and their parents.

“What a blessing to be part of the event, and what a beautiful picture to see all the children and staff on the pavilion, and the donations on the rugby field. I realised that we have so much to be thankful for, so many people have nothing. We just need to thank God for everything He is giving us every day,” she added.

Headmaster Carel Myburgh emphasised the importance of compassion, adding that it was very important for people to love and respect each other, and how good it makes one feel to give something to someone in need.

The Stephanus Roos learners warmed Le Roux’s heart when they told the foundation that they wished they had brought along their own dog food to donate to them.

She further thanked learners and the parents for the contribution they made to the event.

“Also the small bags of dog and cat food we have received. It didn’t look like much, but it was given with so much love, and in the end all those small donations added up to 30kg. Also the girl who brought her own dog’s toy, something to help a shelter dog.

“We have received more than 600kg of dog food and treats, a lot of blankets, toys and dog beds.”

Le Roux thanked Stephanus Roos, the awesome staff, learners and parents, for supporting the shelter.
