Water supply being restored to Wonderboom, Annlin
Pipe burst leaves Annlin and Wonderboom residents without water.
Residents of Annlin and Wonderboom have been without water since Friday following multiple pipe bursts in the area.
Local councillor Lenise Breytenbach said a huge water leak in Annlin was a major blow to service delivery.
“Since Friday and till 20:00 today (Sunday) residents were without water,” said Breytenbach, adding that the leaks were a result of ageing infrastructure that had not yet been replaced.
“Old water network (asbestos pipes) is a huge problem. Vinko Street and Gouritz Avenue had five water leaks during the weekend. Once it has been fixed another water leak was discovered.”
Breytenbach applauded the metro employees that worked tirelessly making sure water supply was restored to the area.
“The team has worked around the clock. I want to take this opportunity to thank the team for all their hard work to ensure residents have water,” she said.
Burst water pipes have become a permanent feature in the city due to the ageing infrastructure.
In 2021 pipe burst were reported more frequently in Pretoria North. Early this year Stinkwater residents were without water for almost a month following a major pipe burst.
According to reports emergency maintenance in Rooihuiskraal left residents without water for 14 hours after Vlakfontein and Bromberg reservoirs ran dry.
The city issued a statement to inform Bronkhorstspruit residents that the local water treatment plant continued to be non-operational after a malfunctioning valve caused the pump station to flood on Sunday, September 18.
“The City’s technicians are working around the clock to ensure that water supply is restored to the affected customers.
“The plant’s motors have been dried and tested but technicians have recommended further drying throughout the day and a cooling period overnight.”
