Metro Booysens residents complaints
Kirkney Ext 68 and Booysens Ext 4 township establishment application was approved on October 24 2019, and on November 20, the ground plans for the establishment were finalised
In response to a memorandum recently received, MMC for human settlements, Abel Tau accompanied by other officials conducted an oversight visit to Booysens ext 4 and Kirkney ext 68 to assess the current infrastructural issues affecting residents.
The memorandum residents submitted requested that the metro install high-mast lighting around the area and maintain the main road. Tau was joined by officials from the Regional Operations and Coordination Department which also represents utility and electrical services.
“While on the ground, we identified two high-mast lights that were vandalised resulting in poor illumination within that community. The vandalism of street lights combined with current high levels of load-shedding has created an increased risk for criminal activities in the darkness of the night,” said Tau.

Township establishments occur when the municipality approves an application for residential, commercial or industrial development to take place.
Tau commended the relevant parties he has been working with to ensure that street lights in the area are maintained and roads are taken care of as well.
“It is important that the City ensures we maintain street lights despite ongoing power outages. In this regard, I am pleased that the relevant departments undertook the task of fixing vandalised street lights, and assessing the need for additional lighting as well as conducting road maintenance,” said Tau.
The MMC noted his contentment regarding seeing multiple water tankers on the ground, providing potable water to residents. Tau said oversight visits are important in building relations with the residents of the metro, to truly address their grievances.
“Conducting oversight visits forms an important part of our work. It is essential that we have eyes and ears on the ground to better respond to the needs of our residents,” concluded Tau.
