New month events to add to your calendar

Pretoria is the place to be at the start of this Jacaranda month. Here are some activities you may want to check out:

National Cupcake Day, October 1

The Cupcakes of Hope non-profit organisation will be hosting National Cupcake Day at Brooklyn Mall, Centurion Mall, Irene Village Mall, Kolonnade Shopping Centre, Lyttelton Mall, Menlyn Mall, and Woodlands Mall in support of children with cancer. The event will take place at multiple locations across South Africa in the hopes to raise R10-million to provide support to hundreds of young cancer patients. Delicious cupcakes baked by Cupcake Angels will be available from 09:00 until they are sold out and small donations will be taken to support families across the country.

Rocking the Daisies, October 9

For the first time ever, Rocking the Daisies can be experienced right here in Gauteng. On October 9, the festival will be hosting its Johannesburg leg at SuperSport Park in Centurion, packed with all the exciting festival vibes Rocking the Daisies is known for. The likes of Clean Bandit, Kelani, Nacty C, Emotional Oranges, Imanbek and more will be hitting the RTD stage in centurion

Block 22 drag show, September 29

Ahead of South Africa’s Pride month in October, Block 22 in Hatfield will be hosting its second drag show. The queens are set to revive the early 2000s pop era, promising drinks for the boring, food for the hungry and queens for those that want to be entertained.

Egoli Food fest, October 1

For a little bit of a trip out of the city, this event will be fun for kids and adults at Egoli Funparks in Klipriver. There will be a variety of local and international gourmet foods and snacks, including a Shisanyama corner, with live music from local artists.

There will be kids’ entertainment along with the giant waterslides and attractions at the park. For the adults, a beer garden with craft beers and cocktail bars will be a nice accompaniment to the foods available.

Aardklop, October 6-9

This year, the Aardklop festival grounds will be at the Voortrekker Monument, right here in the Jacaranda city. The event boasts live performances, art shows, book discussions and more. Catch the kykNET stage with live performances on October 7 and 8, discourse and book discussions at Netwerk24, Fort Schanskop, Voortrekker Monument, and a visual arts exhibition at Fort Schanskop. Entrance is only R50, but strictly cashless – kids under 12 enter for a fee. Tickets to the festival grounds can also be bought online.

Garden Day, October 9

The Moja Gabedi garden project is a Garden Day fairy tale, transformed from what was once an unofficial rubbish dump, and a thorn in the side of the nearby University of Pretoria Hatfield campus is now a captivating rose. This year, they invite visitors to don flower crowns and come celebrate Garden Day on October 9 from 10:00 to 12:30 at this stunning project in the city.
