Local motor company steps in to help anaemia sufferer

“The lack of production of blood cells weakened her body and made Jade vulnerable to things such as heart failure and brain damage due to not getting enough oxygen in her body.”

The Lazarus Motor Company will host a blood donation day on October, 6 for little princess Jade Ward.

Jade has been diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called Fanconi Anaemia. It’s a disease that affects the bone marrow and the production of blood cells.

She recently had a successful bone marrow transplant and is currently under supervision at the paediatric intensive care unit after she had an unexpected setback.

Lazarus Motor company spokesperson Monique Olivier told Rekord that as a sign of their support the company decided to host a blood donation day at their premises.

“Blood is a gift of life. If it weren’t for blood donors, life-saving medical treatment for children with life-threatening anaemia, organ transplants, bone marrow transplants, etc. would not be possible,” Olivier added.

“The lack of production of blood cells weakened her body and made Jade vulnerable to things such as heart failure and brain damage due to not getting enough oxygen in her body.”

Jade was diagnosed more than a year ago and the doctors told her parents, Chrystal and Jason, that their daughter needed a stem cell transplant to save her life.

Jason works at Lazarus Motor company.

“There is a massive blood shortage in SA, so my company (Lazarus Motor Co) is hosting a blood donor day, stem cell/bone marrow registry day and childhood cancers awareness day.

“So far we have over 50 staff members ready to donate… it’s our way of giving back,” Jason said.

The company will also appreciate toy donations from those who can’t be able to donate blood on the day.
