Potjiekos competition in aid of the Sinoville SAPS crisis centre
No financial contributions were asked for, only goods. 'The response was overwhelming.'
A potjiekos competition to aid the Sinoville SAPS crisis centre was not just a great success on Heritage Day but also brought people together to enjoy good food and other festivities for a worthy cause.
Chris Batts, founder of Sport Against Crime, said: “I have a very soft spot for the SAPS crisis centres.
“We asked participants and the public to not only enjoy Braai day with us and make a potjie for the competition, but also to donate non-perishable food, toys, clothes or anything they feel they would want to give, towards the cause.
“We received an overwhelming response and I will be collecting more during the week.
“Myself and the motorcyclists from the 911 Riders are pleased to say that the event was a great success,” said Batts.
Meat World Wonderboom offered space for the competition and provided prizes for the winners and participants, with the youngest winner 10-year-old Nelresa Lerm, who amazed those in attendance with her efforts and cooking skills.
Councillor Lenise Breytenbach, Kobus Terblanche of department of sport arts, recreation and culture as well as Yolanda Bronkhorst of SAPS Sinoville as judges decided to crown 911 Riders as the winner of the competition with Maximum Security a close second.
“No financial contributions were asked for, only goods, which will be handed over to the Sinoville SAPS during the week after all the outstanding pledges have been collected,” said Batts.
