Trees donated to school in celebration of Heritage Day
The school welcomed the donation of the new edition to their diverse tree range.
Gerrit Maritz high school planted different species of trees on September 23 to commemorate Heritage Day.
Dressed in their traditional attire, members of the student council put their green fingers to work, contributing to the festivities organised by House of Peace and the Pretoria-North taxpayers association.
Mickey van der Westhuizen of House of Peace matriculated at Gerrit Maritz school said the school already has a tree-rich environment and thought planting more would be a nice.
“What added to the fun, was the students who were dressed in their heritage outfits of all the rainbow colours and the teachers and principal who are all so friendly and ever ready to assist.
Ward 2 councillor Yolanda Duvenhage said, “Gerrit Maritz is truly a remarkable school with its dynamic principal-vice principal duo who greets every child while moving around the school”.
“One gets this incredible feeling that every single child is important to them and that the heritage of the trees we planted will live forever and will be well looked after,” said Duvenhage.
The trees that were planted included wild plum donated and planted by PNBBV, carob planted by House of Peace and donated by Boutique nursery as well as paperbark planted by Gerrit Maritz and also donated by Boutique nursery.
