EPWP to host consultations in Tshwane
The session is part of a nationwide effort to give EPWP workers/interested applicants a chance to raise their concerns.
The metro has recently announced that the expanded public works programme (EPWP) will host the national public consultation in Tshwane soon.
EPWP is led by the national department of public works and infrastructure, and the consultation is part of a nationwide effort to give EPWP workers/interested applicants a chance to raise their concerns and find out more about what the programme offers.
Since its inception in 2014, after cabinet approval, the EPWP has provided gainful short-term employment to thousands of Tshwane and South African residents in an effort to combat high levels of unemployment.
MMC for social development and community services, Peggy de Bruin expressed her enthusiasm in a statement: “I am excited to be part of this public participation alongside our EPWP team and will continue to support the implementation of this policy with the aim of reducing unemployment”.
De Bruin stated that the EPWP refocuses the government’s public employment programme (PEP) to programmes and positions that are defined clearly and impact communities significantly.
“In winning the trust of communities, the City of Tshwane continues to follow a transparent and credible process in the management of EPWP employment opportunities to ensure that there is no room for nepotism or any other form of interference. The process is aligned with our values of fairness and transparency,” continued De Bruin.

Residents are also cautioned to beware EPWP scams.
EPWP work contracts are awarded through a lottery system to residents between the ages of 18 and 60 with a valid ID and proof of residence, free of charge.
