Bad Peter releases new album on home ground

Bad Peter is back with a new album Home, treating our ears to its famously groovy sounds.
The Pretoria-based singer songwriter duo, PG Badenhorst and Alwyn Bekker, drew a packed album launch to Sowaar Bar in Faerie Glen on Saturday October 8.
Lungelo Moyo and band, with reggae influenced covers of popular classic rock songs and original tracks opened for the highly anticipated headliner.
When Bad Peter finally hit the stage, the crowd was ready for the party, singing along to old and new songs and having a jol.
Badenhorst told Rekord that the duo could not have been happier with the turnout. “The people showed up and were with us every step of the way. It was such an amazing feeling to hear them singing along to our new songs as well!”
Home will be out on October 14 following a track-per-week release build-up. The duo has also released a music video for “Tipuana Tree”, a lamenting song about memories of growing up.
Bad Peter has released four other tracks from the album, “Broken Shell (Let it Burn)”, “Hold On”, “Home”, and most recently, “Diamond Noose”.
The release of Home was set back following the Covid-19 pandemic and the duo admitted that the extra time allowed them to work more to produce a mature and rich sound.
“We were just about to head into studio when Covid hit so it was quite disappointing and frustrating to be set back for so long. So this new album almost marks a new beginning for us once again,” said Badenhorst.
“We are thankful to be putting out new songs and to be back at playing shows full swing.”
Bad Peter is an independent band formed in March 2014 and released its debut EP, Let Go in November 2015. In September 2017, they duo released its first independent EP, Need to Hear.
With a passion for playing acoustic guitars, performing and making live music, their shows are a must for music lovers, as the music hits the right notes for the perfect balance between something to dance to and a wonder to watch the passion on stage.
“We don’t like to limit ourselves to a specific genre. Being singer-songwriters gives us that freedom. You’ll hear folk, blues, African, pop and Latin influences in our songs.”
Bad Peter will perform in Pretoria on October 22 at Karen Zoid’s Zenzational Lucky Packet Party at Monte de Dios alongside Black Cat Bones, Jemma Catherine, Sozlol, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Tollie Parton, Jan Blohm and Ryno Velvet.
