Akasia police arrest robbery suspect, two accomplices on the run
Police urge anyone with information that may assist in arresting the duo to report it to Captain Hendrika Blaauw on 082 335 1278.
One man has been arrested and the Akasia police are on the trail of his two accomplices in connection with a robbery on Monday.
Akasia police spokesperson Lindiwe Mabaso said a man was on his way to work yesterday around 09:00 when he was offered a lift by three men in a Toyota Corolla.
“He accepted and got inside the car, as they were driving one of the suspects pointed a firearm at him while demanding cellphones and cash. The trio took two bank cards, two cellphones, R60 in cash and shoes, then dropped the man on the side of the road and drove away.”
Mabaso said the man stopped a police patrol vehicle in the area to report the robbery. He said the police invited the victim to get into their vehicle so he could help them look for the suspects.
“When police approached the filling station on Doreen Road, the victim pointed at the vehicle and police attempted to stop it but the suspects drove away. In an attempt to stop the vehicle police opened fire.”
Police received a tip that one of the suspects was still at the filling station and moved swiftly to make the arrest.
He said police later recovered the Corolla at the dumpsite in Rosslyn.
“Shoes and two bank cards were also recovered,” he said.
“The other two suspects are still at large. Police urge anyone with information that may assist in arresting the duo to report it to Captain Hendrika Blaauw on 082 335 1278.”
