Law enforcement officials arrested 11 suspects and confiscated drugs to the street value of nearly R700 000 during an anti-drug multidisciplinary operation in Amandasig on Thursday.
The operation was in response to concerns raised regarding drug and substance abuse in the area located close to Amandasig Secondary School.
During the operation, the teams seized various narcotics and alcohol that were being sold illegally.
Several undocumented foreign nationals were also arrested and are currently detained at the Akasia police station.
Acting on the community’s concerns, councillor Rina Marx, the Health Department and the Tshwane metro, led by Grandi Theunissen, pooled resources to decisively act against the reported drug-related activities in Amandasig.
“This operation is aligned with two of our 10 strategic plans, which include enhancing safety and security and creating a healthy vibrant city.
“Today’s operation follows a major TMPD drug bust in Pretoria east two weeks ago,” said the Mayor of Tshwane Randall Williams.
