West SAPS and partners search local school
Ten classes in all were searched with the primary focus on the grades 6 and 7 groups.
The Pretoria West police, community patrollers and local NGO, Youth For Survival (YFS) recently conducted a surprise search operation at Bagale Primary School in Lotus Gardens, Pretoria West.
YFS helps young people and disadvantaged persons around Tshwane to get back on their feet.
In September, the YFS and Pretoria West police conducted a surprise search operation that took place at Lotus Gardens Secondary School.
West police spokesperson said Constable Sibongile Vuma Bagale Primary seems to have been suffering from the same concerning increases in disorderly antics by learners.
“The search operation comes after the school had held numerous awareness talks, addressing discipline, as well as substance and drug abuse, after teachers were complaining about the increase in their unruly behaviours,” said Vuma.
Ten classes in all were searched with the primary focus on the grades 6 and 7 groups.
No non-permitted items were found on the learners.
Despite this, the initiative was regarded as a success nonetheless as it brings awareness to the issues learners face and helps identify and reprimand the rebellious few causing problems for the rest.
“We addressed the problematic learners separately reminding them of the dangers of being intoxicated and how this can affect their future and health at a young age,” continued Vuma.
The West police urged learners to focus on their studies and desist from unruly behaviour as the surprise searches are set to continue.
“Teachers were grateful for our visit. They asked that we do more of these searches to emphasise to learners they will not tolerate any ill-discipline or learners being involved in any criminal activities on the school premises,” concluded Vuma.
