Newly extended Lenchen Road to open to public in 2023
Centurion residents excited over Lenchen Avenue road opening
The much-awaited Lenchen Road extension in Centurion will be officially opened in February next year, according to a local ward councillor.
“It will then be open to the public formally,” ward councillor Cindy Billson told Rekord.
She, however, said her involvement in the project was minimal as it was before the start of the construction, adding that her role was now that of a “cheerleader”.
“I have limited involvement physically in the process now. When the plans had to be approved, I was involved.
“Now it is an operational process and I can only stand on the side-line and encourage the process,” the councillor added.
A visibly proud Billson expressed her excitement about the developments that were taking place in her ward.
“I would like to mention that this is just the first part of the project that is taking place now, and the business park development side is extremely beautiful.
“This will enable the incubation of small business development. This will have a huge impact on the local economic investment of Centurion,” Billson said.
“There has been a lot of talk on social media about this road and it is obviously for two reasons. One is about easing traffic on the road and the second one is that travelling time between Rooihuiskraal north to the Centurion city centre will shorten,” Mounton said.
“As part of the development, we are busy with the entrepreneurial precinct, where we develop affordable entrepreneurial units or business units where small entrepreneurs can build and grow their businesses.”
Karin Verster, a Rooihuiskraal resident who used Lenchen Road almost daily, said the construction of the road would make her life easier.
“I am happy with the road extension, I don’t have complaints. Things are running smoothly and there is less congestion on the road.
“The only problem I have now is the Nellmapius Road, I just hope it will also be sorted out,” Verster said.
She said that she can’t wait for the official opening of the road next year.
“Everybody I have spoken with was just as excited about the new road.”
The project was given a green light by the metro back in 2018, and that’s when Power of Co jumped in to fund and develop the project themselves.
During an interview with Rekord, Mouton said at the time that the construction would cost the company R40-million and 2.5km of the road had already been built, leaving only 1.5km left to build.
He said they have been working hard on this for about two years and things were going well.
