Pretoria man charged with cousin’s murder pleads innocence, gets bail
The state argues that the accused overpowered and stabbed his cousin to death with the latter’s own knife.
A man accused of killing his cousin during a fight in the east of Pretoria has been granted bail.
Thabisang Mosollo, represented by advocate Tseke Rakau had pleaded innocence as he applied for bail on Tuesday in the Pretoria magistrate’s court.
Mosollo, a Waterkloof gardener who lives with his employer, is accused in the murder of his cousin during a fight at the latter’s home.
The state argued that Mosollo overpowered and stabbed his cousin to death with the latter’s own knife.
Mosollo, however, argued against this and told the court that on the day of the murder he went to visit his cousin on what he thought would be a relaxed Sunday to have drinks.
He said when he arrived at the home, the mood was different as he found his cousin fighting with someone also known to him.
“I tried to stop the fight but I unfortunately found myself being a victim as I was stabbed several times and lost consciousness. I woke up in a hospital bed and that is all I remember.”
Mosollo said he woke up in Steve Biko academic hospital with stab wounds under police guard and was told that he would be charged with murder.
He told the court he intended to plead not guilty to the charges against him.
The Lesotho national has stayed and worked in Waterkloof for years, and told the court he did not know what happened after he lost consciousness.
The NPA did not oppose bail stipulating that Mosollo had no previous conviction and was co-operating with police in the investigations.
A statement of the investigating officer from Brooklyn police station read in court, the officer stated he believed Mosollo was not a flight risk and supported his bail application.
Masello was granted bail of R1 000 and warned not to flee the country. He was also ordered to report at the local police station two days a week.
The investigation continues.
