Central police offer motorists safety tips for when in the CBD
Criminals are always on the lookout, so motorists should be to.
Motorists are advised to be extra cautious around the corner of Eeufees and Voortrekker roads whenever driving in central Pretoria.
This and numerous other tips were given during a recent Central SAPS visit to a local radio station to share safety tips one should be aware of when in the CBD.
“Various complaints and reports have been received by the station over the past weeks and this remains a major concern for the station,” said central police spokesperson, Constable Thabang Nkhumise.
The tips given are meant to help motorists avoid falling victim to an array of crimes involving vehicles, including theft out of motor vehicles, theft of a motor vehicle, smash-and-grabs, and other related crimes.
“Criminals are always on the lookout, so motorists should be too. Refrain from being negligent and leaving valuables such as electronic devices in your vehicle,” Nkhumise continued.
Motorists were also advised to avoid travelling at night in poorly lit, isolated areas and to be especially vigilant when travelling on the aforementioned roads, as the Central police have identified it as a crime hotspot.
“Should a motorist ever find themselves falling victim to such crimes, we urge them to stay calm and cooperate with the assailants, to spare their lives,” Nkhumise said.
All in all the tips given during the interview include:
– Avoid driving in isolated areas wherever possible.
– Avoid driving at night.
– Always keep your car doors locked when travelling.
– Never leave valuables such as cellphones, laptops, tablets and other devices inside the vehicle, especially not in plain view.
– Never entrust a stranger with your vehicle.
– Avoid hotspot areas.
