Learners advised to take part in sport to avoid crime
Learners were urged to stop walking the streets at night and avoid talking to strangers.
Temba police advised Sekampaneng primary school teachers to encourage learners to participate in sport to keep them busy and away from activities that could land them in jail.
The police visited the school on Wednesday, October 26 to educate learners about criminal activities and give them hints on how to avoid falling into a life of crime.
Police communication officer Sergeant Herman Moremi said grade 4 – 7 learners were sensitised about discipline, illegal gambling, tips on how to handle bullying, theft, drugs and the dangers of substance abuse, keeping away from dangerous weapons, how to identify the signs of human trafficking, missing persons, malicious damage to property and assault cases.
Learners were urged to refrain from committing or being involved in criminal activities.
“We urged them to focus on their studies, rather assist the school and police by reporting any criminal activities happening around their school and their area,” he said.
The police also urged learners to stop walking the streets at night and avoid talking to strangers as well as social media.
“Teachers were advised to encourage learners to participate in sporting activities to keep them busy,” he said.
