Centurion hit by another sinkhole

No time frame for the fixing of the sinkhole in Snake Valley.

Centurion has been struck by yet another sinkhole on the corner of Snake Valley and Paul Kruger Road near the air force base Zwartkop.

Recently the metro fixed two sinkholes in Alexander Road and the corner of Potgieter and Clifton roads.

The new sinkhole occurred after the heavy rains of Wednesday and Thursday in the area.

Ward 66 councillor Ina Strijdom, said: “The Tshwane geologist, as well as the military geologist, confirmed that it is a sinkhole in Snake Valley – Paul Kruger [streets].”

As yet, there is no indication as to how long the sinkhole will take to repair.”

Strijdom said that the City would release more information later on Tuesday, November 1.

“They still need to determine the cause and the responsibility in dealing with it and whether it will be a joint effort with the Tshwane metro.

“At this stage, they have no more detail and everything will be laid out later.”

No injury or damage was caused.

Strijdom said that she was notified about the sagging road early and hastily spread the word to avoid injury. Military police soon barricaded the road.

Earlier last month metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo told Rekord that no new sinkholes had been identified since May.

According to the City, the sinkhole in Alexander Road was next in line for repairs next with the priority listing and the process for the appointment of the contractor had commenced.

Subsequently, repair work will commence in the third quarter of the current financial year.
