Level 4 weather warning this afternoon
A chilly start to the week warming up towards midweek highs of 30°C, before a rainy and cool weekend for Pretoria.
The SA weather service (Saws) has issued a level 4 warning for disruptive rain over Pretoria for this afternoon, November 7, with a possibility of damaging winds and hail over some parts.
The warning covers the area stretching from Eswatini (previously Swaziland) towards Botswana from 15:00 to midnight.
A level 4 warning is issued for weather events that can have a significant impact, but of a low likelihood.
Saws warned that the disruptive rain could cause flooding of roads and low-lying bridges with a danger to life close to fast-flowing streams and deep water. It also warns of poor driving conditions and major disruption of traffic as flooding or pooling on roads slows traffic flow.
Rain and thundershowers are expected to affect Pretoria until Tuesday night with partly cloudy and clear conditions on Wednesday, reaching a high of 28°C.
Thursday will be hot day at a high of 30°C, with a clear morning developing into possible thundershowers in the evening. On Friday, temperatures will start to dip before a cool weekend with predicted thundershowers and rain through to Sunday.
Residents are warned to be cautious when travelling. Areas that have historically been affected by flooding, such as parts of Centurion, Eerste Fabrieke in Mamelodi, and parts of Pretoria West should be on the lookout for rising waters.
