Mamelodi man almost beaten to death during attempted rape
Police says a 43-year-old was arrested on charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

A 43-year-old man was arrested on Monday in Mamelodi on assault charges.
Mamelodi police spokesperson Constable Lethabo Mashiloane said the suspect allegedly brutally beat a 48-year-old man leaving him fighting for his life on October 24.
“The police have started with the investigation and the suspect is expected to appear in the Mamelodi magistrate’s court on Friday for a bail hearing,” he said.
He said the suspect was surrendered to the police by a family member.
The victim was admitted to the hospital where he remained for six days with broken ribs. He had also been scorched on the right hand and thigh with a hot iron.
“According to the victim, he had earlier gone out for drinks with a friend,” said Mashiloane.
“On their way back home, they met the suspect. The accused offered to walk the victim home so the friend could also walk to his home.”
However, the suspect and the victim returned to the tavern instead where they had drinks until midnight.
Thereafter, they went to the accused’s place where he attacked the victim, demanding to have sexual intercourse with him.
The victim was continuously beaten until he lost consciousness. He was awoken by his family members whom the accused had called to the scene while his victim was unconscious.
Mashialone said the accused later handed himself over to the police but could not confirm if rape had occurred, saying only that the police were busy with the investigation.
He said the suspect briefly appeared in the Mamelodi magistrate’s court on November 5.
The case was postponed to November 11 for a bail hearing.
