Rainy gloomy weather can really get you down. Science has proven this according to WebMD, where a lack of sunshine has been shown to lead to lower levels of serotonin, which can cause a depressed mood and even an increase in appetite. Fight back with these events this weekend:
André Schwartz, November 13

Back by popular demand at the Atterbury Theatre, André Schwartz takes us on his personal journey with the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber. “Music of the Night”, “Any Dream Will Do”, “Love Changes Everything” and “Memories” will all be part of this deep and personal show. Tickets are R220 and the show starts at 15:00.
Mamelodi Tomorrow Golf Club, November 13

The club is hosting its annual golf competition at the Pretoria Golf Club next to the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria West. This year, the open wants to raise funds for young golfers in the area. Tee-off starts at 09:30. Contact Kwena Selepe at 082 621 7211 for more information.
Bread fest, November 12

Not much can beat the smell and taste of fresh homemade bread. So this event is one not to be missed on a chilly Saturday. Traditional bread and meals will accompany a flea market and live music by Bianca Pretorius, with lots of entertainment for the kids. The event takes place at NG Montana from 08:00 to 14:00.
Chilli and Tequila fest, November 12

In need of an extra hard kick to warm up the weekend? Then this combo is for you! Lavender Kontrei Mark is hosting the Chilli and Tequila Fest, which will include prizes for the Best Tasting Sauce and Hottest Sauce. There will also be wine tasting and craft brandy as well as free kids’ entertainment. The event will run from 08:00 to 14:00. Call 082 565 6055 for more information.
Secret (until it’s not), November 12-29

Curated by Will Roux and Zelda Stroud, this group exhibition delves into hidden, private, unspoken, confidential, dark, silent, isolated, discrete, mysterious and unacknowledged themes. It includes interactive artworks with secret spaces, secret messages, hidden materials and secret layers. The exhibition opens at 10:00 at the Artbox Gallery and Framing in Monument Park.
Wine and chocolate tasting, November 11

Red Ruby Restaurant presents this delectable tasting evening where five colours of chocolate will be paired with the perfect wines. Jacaranda City Challenge, November 12

For those that just can’t sit still, this city road race is back. This time it will be hosted in the Moot under the jacaranda-lined streets. The 42.2km route is a double-lap race with 21,1km, 10km and 5km distances available. The first start time for the 42.2km and 21.1km is at 05:30 with medals to all finishers within the cut-off times.
