Sundowns ladies gear up for CAF Champions League semi-finals
They scored nine more goals in the group stage this year compared to the only two goals they scored last season in the same stage of the competition.
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are two games away from retaining the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League.
Banyana Ba Style won all their group stage games to advance to the later stage of the competition with their most recent victory being a 4-0 thumping of Congo’s TP Mazembe in the final group stage game on Monday.
The champions now prepare for another challenge against Tanzania’s Simba Queens FC in the semi-finals on Wednesday at 18:00.

Coach Jerry Tshabalala has expressed his delight after his charges delivered a commanding performance against Congo’s TP Mazembe in their final Group B fixture.
Despite needing only a draw to secure progression to the knockout phase and clinch the group, Sundowns Ladies showed clinical finishing again.
“It was a very big game against TP Mazembe as they were also fighting for maximum points. However, we got an early goal which settled our nerves and ensured that we took control of the fixture,” he was quoted saying on the club website.
He said credit must go to the team and defensive line for nullifying the attacking threats from the opponents.
“We are happy with all three points and even more excited that we finished as Group winners,” the coach said.
The dominant Brazilian ladies have netted 11 times in three games in this tournament.
Tshabalala said he’s satisfied with the number of goals they’ve managed to score considering that they only scored twice in group matches last season.
“We are making good progress because last year, we scored just two goals in the group stage. This year, we scored 11 times. These are confidence boosters for the team because we aim to find the back of the net against anyone we face,” he said.
He added that he is happy that everyone is getting on the score sheet and they are not depending on one player to deliver the goals.
With a place in the final up for grabs, Coach Tshabalala cannot wait for the mouthwatering last-four tie against Tanzania’s Simba Queens.
The winners of this year’s competition will walk away with $400 000 (R7 139 500), the runner-up $250 000 (R4 462 187,50), and the semi-finalists $200,000 (R3 569 750) each.
