Sosh resident continues the fight to better the lives of kids in his area

He has been hosting tournaments and awareness programmes to take kids away from drugs and help shape their future in sports.

Soshanguve Block TT resident Kagiso William Mtshali has been working hard since 2017 to better the lives of kids in his community.

He started Kagiso Sports Development five years ago to keep young people centred on what will benefit them in the future.

Mtshali has been hosting sports awareness programmes and netball tournaments in his community.

“We initiated these programmes and the foundation to deal with substance abuse in the community.”

The foundation recruits kids from the age of 11.

“We create life skills programmes where we invite other social partners like Famsa [Families SA] to offer services such as crime prevention and counselling, twice a year depending on how we fundraise for them,” he said.

The enthusiastic founder said being on the good side of something positive in his community motivates him.

“I’m so happy that there are kids out there that were able to change their behaviour for the better… seeing them happliy playing or participating in sports,” he said.

He added that it motivates him to work harder to be the change he wants to see.

“It motivates me not to give up on trying to better the future,” he said.

Mtshali has also registered a soccer team KSD United with the local league, Soshanguve Local Football Association (SOLFA), to participate in the junior and promotional leagues.

He said registering the team was a highlight and happiest moment of his journey since he started the foundation.

He said the foundation has had its challenges with a lack of funding that has resulted in the scaling back of services it offers but “parents still don’t have to contribute to transport to games even though we are struggling for funds”.

“We are looking for more sponsors to help register the kids for other programmes.”

Potential sponsors can contact Mtshali via Facebook pages Kagiso Sports Development or KSD United or call him on 076 1611 8540.
