Akasia police hosted imbizo community meeting over weekend

Residents are urged to report officers who misuse state vehicles to 079 529 4277.

The Akasia police hosted a community imbizo this weekend to interact with the community on issues such as service delivery and client satisfaction in the area.

The police also announced that the station will be receiving 30 new officers and eight vehicles for this financial year.

Acting Tshwane district commissioner Brigadier Samuel Thine led the meeting where concerns were raised. These included reaction time by police in attending to call-outs, police visibility, shortage of vehicles, staff shortage, an increase of crime in the sectors, the building of the police station, by-laws, non-functioning of streetlights, overgrown grass causing street robberies and house burglaries were raised.

Other stakeholders who attended the imbizo were Brigadier M Mashele from Gauteng province supply chain, Tshwane health MMC Rina Marx, Ramoliki from correctional services, Tshwane North CPF chairperson Molefe, CPF chairperson Kenneth Mathabatha, Tshwane district management and Akasia station management joined in to hear the plight of residents in the area.

Marx assured the attendees that all issues about streetlights, environmental issues and by-laws will be dealt with urgently.

While Brigadier M Mashele indicated that there was a challenge with a contract to build a station, the process is unfolding positively.

He said the police were working together with the Department of Public Works and Tshwane metro.

He urged sectors to report officers who misuse state vehicles to 079 529 4277.

Thine assured residents that the concerns presented would be dealt with, with ultimate importance, and promised that the station management will account for their actions of non-service to the community.

He pleaded with Akasia station commander Colonel Magugu Ginindza and his management to work together with the community and urged community members to work hand in hand with law enforcement agencies.

The community patrollers and school patrollers were commended for the work they have been doing and encouraged to continue.

Community members were also given safety tips on how to protect themselves to not become the victims of crime during the festive season.

The imbizo concluded on an optimistic note and the community has pledged to proceed to work with the police in fighting crime within their community.
