Gauteng Premier interacts with young people ready for rehab
Some young people told Lesufi that they were mentally ready to change their lives and win the war against drugs.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said they have been overwhelmed by the calls for assistance in their war against drugs campaign.
The campaign has since seen the government launch a drug awareness hotline last month.
On Tuesday, the premier visited the Soshanguve Centre of Excellence, which accommodates reformed drug abusers.
The centre provides various skills such as CV writing, bricklaying and plumbing.
It also serves as a halfway house before reintegration.

The young people will receive treatment and care from qualified social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists.
“Our children are going through the difficulties of drugs and when I speak to them, it always affirms me that we have taken the right decision,” said Lesufi.

He added that they’re not going to leave them to fight alone.
“They need to be assisted. We are here to support them and prepare their future,” he said.
He said they are going to provide the assistance needed by the youth from medical and social support.
“We are also going to be recruiting them for government jobs so that they can continue on their own after rehab,” he said.
He added that the huge component of this programme is medical support.
