ActionSA MMCs and ward councillor assess service delivery in Centurion
"I am glad that you are here today as opposed to us only seeing you on election day."
ActionSA MMCs and ward councillors highlighted several pressing issues during a so-called “service delivery inspection” in Centurion on Tuesday.
The inspection kicked off in Doringkloof, at the abandoned buildings used as hideaways by criminals, according to ward councillor Henriette Frohlich.
“Criminal elements are mushrooming in the area due to these derelict buildings,” said Frohlich.
The next stop was The Reeds where residents and a well-known private school have been at loggerheads following the latter fencing off a public park for private use.
The team was happy to see that the park was no longer fenced off.
“We’re glad that the illegal fence has been removed as the school had promised,” Frohlich told Rekord.
Residents were informed of the school’s proposal for expansion within the next 5-10 years and that a meeting has been called to address the issue.
“It wasn’t fair for residents to be kept in the dark about the school’s expansion plans since it affected them directly.”
In Olievenhoutbosch, clinic staff complained to councillor Malesela Matlou about a lack of resources at the facility and long queues.
Matlou told the staff that his team was aware of the problem.
“We will schedule a health committee meeting for next year,” she told them.
At the Mooiplaas informal settlement, residents voiced their unhappiness to the MMCs about inefficient water delivery by trucks to the area.
“The people delivering water seem to be doing whatever they want,” complained resident Mantoa Moforotsi.
“We always struggle to get water here” Moforotsi told the MMCs.
“Can you please intervene in this matter? I am glad that you are here today as opposed to us only seeing you on election day.”
