Central SAPS engage with shoppers

Pamphlets containing all the relevant information residents and various businesses would need to keep safe were handed out.

During the past Black Friday weekend, central SAPS took to the streets to speak to locals about safety tips they can use to ensure they enjoy a safe festive season.

“As it is that time of the year when a whole lot of people will be flocking into the city to shop for the festive season, we are focusing on visibility to monitor and ensure that the city remains a safe and secure space for all,” said spokesperson Constable Thabang Nkhumise.

Some of the tips that central shoppers should keep in mind, include:

– Avoid bogus salespersons who offer you items at very low prices.

– Don’t carry cash with you to avoid falling victim to common robbers and fraudsters.

– Avoid walking in isolated areas.

– Never carry stokvel cash.

“Bogus sales, common robberies, business robberies and a number of other illegal activities will be taking place in and around the city, so residents should always be on their guard,” Nkumise continued.

A team of sector commanders, a communication officer, social crime prevention members and patrollers spoke to locals in the Sammy Marks area, central Pretoria.
