Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies officially crowned Super League champions

It was a season to remember for the reigning champions who ruthlessly dominated the league whilst shattering numerous records in extraordinary style.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies proved dominant this season in the Hollywoodbets Super League winning 27 matches.

On Saturday the Brazilians wrapped up the season with a 5-2 victory over Richmond United Ladies to win a third league titles in a row.

The Pretoria side was strong defensively this season hence conceded 13 goals in 30 matches while the attackers were lethal in scoring 127 goals thus making history by scoring 55 more goals than the second-highest-scoring team in the league JVW.

They ended the season on 83 points, 14 clear of second-place UWC.

Coach Jerry Tshabalala told the club website that they had a very long but interesting season across the various competitions they participated in.

“Regardless of the results in the COSAFA qualifiers and CAF Women’s Champions League, I am proud of how my charges displayed their bravery on countless occasions this season,” he said.

He added that he couldn’t wait to re-strategise and go again next season.

Sundowns’ Boitumelo Rabale finished the season with 24 goals and Miche Minnies with 22.

Both competed for the top goal-scorer of the season award but beaten to the punch by JVW’s Nompumelelo Nyandeni who netted 30 goals.

Last year’s joint-top scorers Andisiwe Mgcoyi could only manage 12 this term while Melinda Kgadiete netted 11 and Rhoda Mulaudzi eight.
