Operation in the north leads to the arrest of over 400 suspects
Arrested persons are expected to appear in court soon.
A high-density operation over the past weekend by the Sinoville and Villeria SAPS led to the arrest of 404 suspects for various offences in the Tshwane district policing area.
Brigadier Samuel Thine, who led the operation, said that the arrests come as a result of dedicated members who deliver on their promise towards the communities they serve and protect.
The various crime combating initiatives by the Tshwane SAPS had seen suspects being arrested for crimes which included assault, GBV, common assault, illegal immigration, housebreaking, theft, possession of drugs, drunk driving, possession of housebreaking implements, possession of stolen motor vehicles and malicious property damage.
The objective of the operation was to reduce crime and create a safer environment, both successful as police arrested 22 undocumented persons, two liquor outlets were closed, eight people were arrested for drinking in public and one was arrested for illegal gambling.
An additional 10 persons were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
During the operation, a total of 460 persons, 156 vehicles and nine premises were searched and nine fines to the value of R9 750 were issued.
A total of 60 660ml of liquor was confiscated and handed in for destruction.
Police have again shown their commitment to protecting victims of GBV incidents after they arrested a total of 76 persons for cases relating to gender-based crimes.
“These successes by our officers show that we are serious about creating a safer festive season for our Tshwane residents,” said Thine.
He also thanked all members and their families for their hard work and time spent to reduce crime.
Arrested persons are expected to appear in court soon.
