Tshwane denies it aims to relocate Sports Park residents
Sports Park informal settlement residents long to live in a humane environment.
The Tshwane metro has denied plans to relocate the group of people living at the so-called Sports Park informal settlement in Lyttelton.
This as the residents this week said they were living in inhumane conditions where it was difficult to raise children.
“This place is too cluttered, it’s no place to raise children,” said Michael Nkosi, one of the residents.
“We are here not by choice but by circumstances. We each have different reasons why we are here but what unites us is that we are here because we don’t have anywhere else to go.”
Nkosi said despite their living conditions in the settlement they are living in harmony as a community.
These residents appeared to be under the impression that the metro would be moving them to a new area.
Nkosi said officials, believed to be from the metro, visited the area and took down their details.
However, metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo disputed that there were any plans to relocate the residents.
