JMPD makes arrests in Tshwane officer murder case

The suspect led the investigators to the second suspect, who was in possession of a weapon the police suspected was the murder weapon.

The investigation into the murder of a Tshwane metro police (TMPD) officer has taken an upturn with the arrest of two suspects on Tuesday, one in possession of the possible murder weapon.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said they received a tip-off that the suspect was spotted on the corner of President and Nugget streets in the Johannesburg CBD.

“Officers proceeded to the given address, and upon their arrival, the suspect had already left. Further information was received that the suspect was using e-hailing services and was on his way to Olievenhoutbosch.

“The team followed the lead and the vehicle in which the suspect was travelling, a grey Suzuki, was spotted and stopped on the corner Allandale and Old Pretoria roads, Midrand,” Fihla said.

He said the suspect led a dedicated team of investigators to the second suspect, who was in possession of a weapon which the police suspect was the murder weapon.

“The suspect led the team to Olievenhoutbosch, where a second suspect, allegedly in possession of the murder weapon and a bag full of burnt and stained money, was apprehended.

“The second suspect told the officers that the weapon was in Soshanguve, where another male suspect was apprehended in possession of the firearm with live ammunition.”

According to a tweet by anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee, the second suspect was also wanted by Free State police for an ATM bombing.
