Wetnose saves dogs dumped on the side of the road

The pups will be kept in the clinic until the infection has cleared up and all vaccinations are up to date.

Two ten-week-old puppies, infested with a parasitic skin infection, were found on the side of the road on Wednesday morning by a Wetnose inspector after a tip-off call from a concerned resident.

The puppies were found abandoned next to a busy road on the wet-grown grass, which these puppies had to call their home after having been dumped.

Upon arrival, the inspector found the puppies shivering from the cold or terror, ridden with demodectic mange, a skin infection caused by a parasitic mite that lives in the hair follicles of dogs.

Demodectic mange is often transmitted from mother to baby while nursing. Unlike Sarcoptic mange, demodectic mange is not contagious to humans or other animals.

Exceptional care was taken when loading the puppies into the bakkie. After arriving at the centre, they were taken to the clinic to be examined by the organisation’s vet.

The pups will be kept in the clinic until the mange has cleared up and all vaccinations are up to date.

The organisation emphasised their policy that no excuse or explanation would validate abandoning helpless animals next to the road as it is cruel and unnecessary.
