Eersterust police arrests suspect in possession of stolen Uber driver’s car
The driver left the car to smoke, leaving the keys in ignition. One of the occupants jumped into the driver's seat and sped off.

Eersterust police arrested a 23-year-old man on Monday for possession of a stolen vehicle, which he reportedly stole from an “Uber” driver.
“It is alleged that the 40-year-old Uber driver received a request to pick up passengers at Hans Coverdale East Road in Eersterust,” said Eersterust police spokesperson Sam Shibambo.
“Upon arrival, three men got into his car and told him to go to Mason Avenue, also in Eersterust.
“At Mason Avenue, the driver switched the vehicle off and went outside to smoke, leaving the keys in the ignition.
“One of the occupants, who was seated in the back, jumped to the driver’s seat and sped off with the vehicle.”
The police were informed of the theft and found the suspect who took them to a house on Pieter Fortuin Avenue where the stolen car was found parked in a garage.
Shibambo said the suspect was detained for possession of a stolen motor vehicle. More charges are likely to be added.
The investigation is continuing and the police are hoping to track down the other suspects soon.
Meanwhile, Eersterust police management appealed to Uber drivers to be cautious and vigilant while operating in the area.
