Metro provides buses for Salvokop youth development centre

“Working with the private sector and non-profit organisations, we can uplift our communities and empower young people.”

The Tshwane metro recently helped the Salvokop Youth Development Centre by supplying them with buses to transport more than a hundred children on a weekend outing recently.

The Salvokop drama club’s 120 children and 22 youth leaders enjoyed a weekend camp in Cullinan Region 5 after four metro buses transported the young thespians from Pretoria West.

Tshwane mayor Randall Williams said the effort comes in the spirit of wanting to give back to communities, especially learners as the 2023 academic year is now in full swing.

“Having worked with the centre in the past and seeing their positive impact in their community, we were pleased to offer a helping hand,” said Williams.

“Our multiparty coalition government fully supports community-driven programmes that seek to advance and develop youth through various arts, sports, education and skills training.”

The Salvokop Youth Development Centre is a local NGO that aims to provide creative safe spaces for local children.

The drama club forms part of the centre and the NGO also provides free after-school programmes for drama and dance.

“Working with the private sector and non-profit organisations, we can uplift our communities and empower young people,” Williams continued.

Roads and transport MMC Dikeledi Selowa and the department were also thanked for their role in organising the transport.
