Beware social media scams, police warn
“Make sure you see the product in person before you pay for it so you can be sure it’s not a scam.”
Villieria police warned residents that there has been an increase in the number of people falling victim to online scams, especially on social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
“Scammers would advertise their goods online and ask for payment upfront only for the buyers to never hear from them again nor see the product they paid for,” said Adjutant Officer Marinda Austin.
Austin said that in many cases people will use pictures of dogs that they want to sell to potential buyers.
To try and appear more convincing, they even send video clips and other media to persuade their victims that the dogs or products were real.
“Be careful with your money,” said Austin.
“Make sure you see the product in person before you pay for it so you can be sure it’s not a scam.”
