TMPD makes R100 000 drug busts

The suspects thought that they could bribe their way out of the situation, however, the R1 000 bribe that they offered the drug unit members only resulted in an additional charge to the suspects’ charge sheet.

TMPD’s battle against drugs continues to amplify as officers recently arrested a 67-year-old for possession and dealing in Pretoria West.

The TMPD drug unit responded to a complaint of illegal activity occurring in a house in Atteridgeville, Pretoria West.

Upon arrival at the house in question on January 23, TMPD members immediately arrested the 67-year-old woman when she was found to be in possession of crystal meth, nyaope and CAT with an estimated street value of R25 000. The suspect was detained at Atteridgeville police station, and charged with possessing and dealing drugs.

This latest bust adds to the TMPD’s January successes, as earlier this month three people aged between 30 and 36 were also arrested by the drug unit for similar offences.

The trio were found in possession of crystal meth with an estimated street value of R75 000. The suspects thought that they could bribe their way out of the situation, however, the R1 000 bribe that they offered the drug unit members only resulted in an additional charge to the suspects’ charge sheet.

Mayor Randall Williams commended the TMPD and the drug unit for their efforts.

“I would like to thank the TMPD drug unit once again for their efforts, cleaning our streets and protecting our youth from getting hold of drugs,” Williams said.

“Through these targeted interventions, the TMPD drug unit is constantly keeping the pressure on drug dealers. Each arrest provides more information, allowing them to break down these illegal networks brick by brick.”

The mayor and authorities are calling on residents to follow the example of the complainant and report all drug-related crimes they are aware of to the relevant authorities.

Residents who want to report a drug-related crime can contact the police on 10111.
