Metro addresses EPWP stakeholder concerns
The metro also plans to conduct stage awareness drives that will provide useful and accurate information regarding EPWP to residents.
The Tshwane metro has addressed residents’ concerns regarding the EPWP appointment process.
The metro says that it wants to assure residents and stakeholders that it is committed to creating jobs via the EPWP hence its clarification.
“We hereby remind all stakeholders that we do not manage all EPWP jobs currently underway in the capital city,” said MMC for social development and community services Peggy de Bruin.
“EPWP is used by state organs within all spheres of government to realise the core objective of creating short to medium-term opportunities. Likewise, other spheres of government embark on their own recruitment drives to select beneficiaries.”
The metro asserts that its organs, public employment programmes and departments are committed to ensuring Tshwane residents benefit from Tshwane EPWP projects.
Even in cases in which the city is not in charge of a project due to numerous engagements with various governmental spheres, the MMC states that community benefit will be the main priority.
“I would like to assure residents that the City remains committed to the creation of employment opportunities under the EPWP,” De Bruin continued.
It is reported that the EPWP appointment process is constantly undergoing refinement for “sustained success”.
The metro also plans to conduct awareness drives that will provide useful and accurate information regarding EPWP to residents.
“The metro remains committed to contributing to the creation of employment opportunities under the EPWP through a fair, transparent and audited lottery process,” De Bruin concluded.
