Security cameras in Brooklyn catch cable thief in the act
Reaction officers responded and after a short foot chase and jumping of property walls, a suspect was detained, a bolt cutter was found, and about 345m cable was recovered.
Thanks to cutting-edge security, a cable thief was nabbed on Tuesday in Brooklyn and a 345m cable recovered.
Security company, Complete Security Intelligence (CSI) cameras picked up the suspects dragging cable in a street.
CSI reaction officers responded and after a short foot chase including jumping over property walls, one suspect was caught and handed over to the police.
In his possession, a bolt cutter was found while about 345m of cable was in the vicinity of the capture scene.
Brooklyn has been plagued by cable theft, a huge destruction to infrastructure that is worsening the plight of an already overburdened metro.

CEO of CSI Dana Bloem said theft of cable causes prolonged outages an addition to load-shedding.
He said the security camera initiatives play a huge role in the fight against cable theft and crime in general.
“The use of technology and cameras in the eastern part of Pretoria is very paramount. Our cameras are monitored and controlled by CSI control room via artificial intelligence software. This is a huge achievement for us and for the community at large.”
Bloem urged the community to assist to combat cable theft.
“We encourage the community to get involved. We appeal with them to report any suspicious persons or vehicles during load- shedding on the CPF groups.
Community members with cameras facing towards the streets can log their cameras on the CPF database under the infrastructure command on the @BrooklynCPF_bot. This will be very helpful in tracing and bringing perpetrators to book.
“CCTV footage assists with vital intelligence concerning the number of suspects and vehicles involved in crime, especially where walls, fences and gates didn’t keep them out,” he added.
Bloem praised the local councillor and local CPF members that have been hard at work.
“I would like to thank our councillor who is always out patrolling every week and every night especially during load-shedding hours.
“The councillors ensure that cables are replaced and repaired as quickly as possible when they get stolen. My gratitude goes out to all of our security companies and CPF patrollers who are working hard and long shifts to apprehend these thieves.”
