Tshwane flying squad recovers hijacked Toyota Hilux in Soshanguve

It is believed the suspects abandoned the bakkie in the middle of the street when they realised the police were in pursuit.

Police Tshwane flying squad continues to make life hard for car hijackers in the area.

The squad recovered a suspected hijacked white Toyota Hilux valued at R330 000 in Thali Street in Block K, Soshanguve on Sunday, March 5.

Spokesperson Sergeant Alfred Legodi said the police received a tip-off from a tracking company that it had traced the bakkie to Thali Street, where it had been abandoned in the middle of the road.

“The squad found the car without occupants. It is believed that the suspects fled on foot as soon as they realised that we were on their tail,” said Legodi.

Legodi said the bakkie had already been fitted with false number plates.

“The probe continues to determine if the car may have been used in any criminal activities by the suspects considering the fact that it was fitted with inaccurate plates.

The Pretoria North local criminal record centre fingerprint experts were summoned to the scene to try to recover fingerprints of the suspects.”

Legodi said the squad and other law enforcement agencies will continue to wage a war against car smugglers and hijackers.

The bakkie was taken to the Pretoria West police pound.
