Police launch manhunt for suspects involved in attempted hijacking in the north

Mabasa highlighted that police are appealing to the public to come forward with more information that would assist in the successful arrest of these suspects.

Police launched a manhunt for two men involved in an attempted hijacking in The Orchards.

Akasia police spokesperson Lindiwe Mabasa confirmed that a case of attempted hijacking was opened at the station on March 15.

“The complainant, driving a blue Toyota Quest as an e-hauling driver, reported that while on duty he received a request to pick up a client on Longmore Road in The Orchards.

“Upon arrival, he picked up a man who asked him to stop at a spot to pick up his friend. The friend went to sit in the backseat behind the driver.”

Mabasa added that the suspects and the complainant drove off when the suspect behind the driver pulled out a firearm and instructed him to stop the vehicle.

“The driver did as he was told and later fought with one of the suspects for the car keys. At that point, the second suspect managed to forcefully get the keys and both suspects proceeded to drive off leaving the driver stranded.

“The complainant sought help from a motorist who followed the suspects in the vehicle. They caught up with the suspects. The men stopped the stolen vehicle and ran into the bushes.”

Mabasa highlighted that police are appealing to the public to come forward with more information that would assist in the successful arrest of these suspects.

Community members with information are encouraged to call the station at 012 564 0700 or contact Crime Stop line on 08600 10111 if they want to remain anonymous.
