Thatchfield residents requested to use water sparingly
"Use water sparingly to allow more pressure into the system sufficient enough to cover the Thatchfield Ridge area."
The Tshwane metro has issued a notice of continued low water pressure in Thatchfield Ridge, Centurion.
The area has been experiencing water shortages for some weeks.
Metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba asked residents in the Thatchfield and Olievenhoutbosch areas to reduce their water usage and use water sparingly to allow more pressure into the system sufficient enough to cover the Thatchfield Ridge area.
The area is supplied with water from the Kosmosdal meter, which gets water from Rand Water.
The Kosmosdal connection and meter also supply Olievenhoutbosch.
“The normal operating pressure for the Kosmosdal system is 13 bars, however, the system can supply the areas with at least 11 bars of pressure.
“The average pressure recorded is 9.5 bars. Thatchfield Ridge is situated at the highest point on the distribution zone, and is therefore affected,” said Bokaba.
The pressure drop follows recently completed scheduled maintenance work on the Rand Water system that is linked to the Kosmosdal meter.
According to Bokaba, while Rand Water was busy with its maintenance work, its infrastructure was vandalised elsewhere on the same system that supplies the Kosmosdal meter.
Rand Water quickly repaired the damage caused by the vandalism, but the system remained adversely affected.
Since then, the city has not been able to reach sufficient pressure to supply the area.
“Both Rand Water and the City of Tshwane have investigated their water supply systems and are struggling to identify the cause of the slight drop in pressure within the system.
“Both the City and the water utility are frantically continuing with investigations, including identifying illegal connections that may be the cause of the problem.”
