Ga-Rankuwa residents spring into action to keep streets clean
“We appeal to the community to support this initiative and keep our Ga-Rankuwa clean.”
On Tuesday, March 21, a Ga-Rankuwa clean-up campaign took to the streets to remove litter to keep their community clean.
The campaign had the day before hosted a potjie kos competition at Louis Pub to raise funds for the clean-up.
Campaign chairperson Jeff Mosupye said that as the organisation grows, it will also dive into other social struggles.
“This is the initiative to clear the streets of Ga-Rankuwa of waste but as it gains momentum, we will also focus on other pressing issues like disadvantaged families and other stuff,” said Mosupye.
He said the campaign was started by ladies and gentlemen who have committed themselves to looking after the Ga-Rankuwa community at large.
“The first clean-up was on February 18 at the Motsatsi Street and Molefe Makinta Highway intersection while the second was on March 21. Both were successful thanks to all the participants for making sure this initiative succeeds,” he added.
He said the news of the clean-up was spread by word of mouth, on WhatsApp, Facebook and community radio stations.
Mosupye said that the clean-up is funded by volunteers and other benefactors without government support.
“We appeal to the community to support this initiative and keep our Ga-Rankuwa clean,” he said adding that the next clean-up was planned for April 3.
Those who would like to join can contact Jeff Mosupye at 081 308 3444 or the Ga-Rankuwa Clean Up Facebook group.
