593 busted in Tshwane weekend cop ops
The main focus of this operation was the Rietgat and Soshanguve policing areas where 273 persons were arrested.
Almost 600 persons were arrested for various crimes during a police operation in Tshwane at the weekend.
This was as 593 people were arrested during the operation, which ran between 6:00 on Friday morning and 6:00 on Sunday morning, according to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk.
The operations were led by Tshwane police commissioner Major-General Azwindini Nengovhela.

The arrests were for murder, possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, housebreaking, dealing in and possession of drugs, possession of stolen property, fraud, theft of a motor vehicle and drinking in public.
“All suspects will appear in their respective magistrate’s courts,” said Van Dyk.
The main focus of this operation was the Rietgat and Soshanguve policing areas where 273 persons were arrested.

Eighty of these arrests were for gender-based violence.
Five hundred and eighty-five persons were searched, which resulted in 14 being arrested for drinking in public, one for assaulting a police officer and 17 undocumented immigrants.
Eight liquor premises were inspected and closed for noncompliance with the Liquor Act and 344 770ml of liquor was confiscated and will be destroyed.
Van Dyk said 287 vehicles were searched.
“One hundred and six Aarto infringement notices were issued to the value of R67 500 with 13 drivers arrested for driving under the influence.”
The operations included various stakeholders such as the Gauteng traffic department, the departments of home affairs, community safety as well as Tracker and SAPS officers from various units and stations in the Tshwane district.
Nengovhela said the three-phased operations have yielded positive results.

“We are very committed to fighting crime and removing all perpetrators from society, but with the help of the community we can certainly do more.”
