Bus driver, passengers are arrested after blocking road and fighting with Pretoria police

"Police officers called for backup after they were attacked by the occupants of the bus following the driver's arrest."

Pandemonium broke out on the N1 off-ramp in Hammanskraal recently after eight people and a bus driver were arrested for assaulting police and resisting arrest.

This was after the bus driver resisted arrest for blocking a national road with his bus and driving without a licence, according to Tshwane flying squad spokesperson Alfred Legodi.

The incident happened earlier in March, Legodi said.

Legodi said police arrived on the scene after the bus, which was parked across the offramp, was blocking traffic.

Some of the occupants of the bus were not happy and lashed out at the police.

“The police officers called for backup after they were attacked by the occupants of the bus following the driver’s arrest.

“The occupants were trying to free the driver following the initial arrest.”

Legodi said eight of the occupants were arrested.

“They were charged with public violence, resisting arrest and assault.”

All suspects were expected to appear in court soon.
